World At War is on The Military Channel right now (07:40 PM EST) and the episode is D-Day.
It's a big deal.
I wish the landings at Okinawa, Anzio, Pelelieu, Iwo Jima and the other dates were more conspicuously commemorated as well, even though those dates barely tell the stories of the struggles that followed.
It might go a long way to help many people realize we live in the shadows of incredibly brave men and women and we don't have to follow along the path of quiescent suplication to every power with a nastier resolve. Nor should we only remember on 3 or 4 days a year.

Alas,it seems there is hardly any patriotism any more.Me and a old corps buddy were just talking about this today.If you walked down any street in america right now 3 out of 10 people couldnt tell you what today is and what it represents.I could be wrong but i seem to remember when i was younger d-day was marked on the calender,now it is not.Hell i guess it is just a different world we live in now........

+1 Victor. I checked on the History Channel and they were playing "Ice Road Truckers" for most of the day! I was very disapointed.

The Longest Day, at minimum, should have been broadcast. Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers and on and on. There is no shortage of suitable films.

100% agree'd. Our country doesn't give a fuck anymore it seems. Had that talk at work today, with most of us being former military. Bad case of red ass from all of us..
