Do you just leave it on or turn it off? I just got a comp ml3 and it has the 50,000 hour batterie life just wondering if its bad to leave it on

It depends what you are using it for. Generally I shut mine off. If it is for a bump in the night kind of thing, then you can leave it on.

From what an Aimpoint rep told me, with the M3, M4 and T1 units it best to leave them on.

the "bump in the night" is why I was asking. I have noticed that in the dark you need to have the dot bright enough to still be visible when you turn on your flashlight

I know you are joking, but the Aimpoint Tech guy told me that you cannot turn them off. In the lowest setting the sight is still on. And with the ML3 on level 7, the sight draws less energy then the batt gives off as it self discharges. All info direct from the company, I thought it was pretty neat.

We've had our T1 and M4S's on for over 2 years now. Leave them on to the next to the brightest setting and GTG. Nothing more need to be said with a 50K and 70K battery on life. Hope this helps.

i know the new ones have a longer battery life, but what was the expected battery life on the old comp m's? i shut mine off when not in use but can't remember ever changing a battery in any of mine. maybe i could get away with leaving it on?

I got the same statement from my talk with Aimpoint. As I posted above, the discharge of the batt's on their own are more than the draw of the super efficent units. With that being said, why would you ever turn it off (or really to the lowest setting since they don't turn off).

50,000hr battery life divided by (168hr per week, 52 weeks a year) is about 7 years of full on time. Take the information what you may, I can't turn off my Reflex II so I don't worry about it.

This was the explanation I got as well.
If it was on my home defense weapon I would most definitely leave it on. Do yourself a favor and test it at night to find the correct setting.

I agree with most on here. When sitting in the safe/case/cabinet I turn it off. If it's for home defense or when in combat, I left them on with no problems.
