Stefan73 and I went out last weekend to have a little fun. Ended up tearing up my steel with some spotter tracers from the .50. However we got it zeroed with the new scope.

Just a thing to think about when watch the video. The steel plate weighs in at a bit over 50lbs, and watch how much it moves.

One day I may own one, but i'll definately have to have enough money to feed it.

I'm glad that I met Stefan and was able to share a place with him to shoot that rifle. He hasn't been able to shoot it in quite a while. The Serbu is quite pleasant to shoot, it recoils pretty good, but it's not painful, nor uncomfortable to shoot. I'd have to say that it's more comfortable than my 13.5lbs .308.

It's railroad tracks, not a highway, and it's about 1.5 miles or so, maybe a little less. We usually don't shoot that direction. We just shot that direction because we needed to place the steel in a area that didn't have combustible stuff around it.

Let me get this straight, you think that the spotter tracer round traveling at a starting velocity of 2200fps is going to bounce off the ground and travel 2200yards (I just went and measured on google earth) and have enough energy to penetrate a O2 tank railcar?? Did you not notice that they couldn't penetrate 1/2" of mild steel (no AR500 here) at 100 yards? I wasn't aware that railcars that carry liquid O2 are made of tin foil.

Even to hit a object 2200 yards distance with a .50 shooting 2200fps like the spotter tracers, i'd have to aim 10-12 FEET over the 100 yard target, with a max ordinance of 90-100 feet. And when it did hit, it would be very subsonic, and take almost 5 seconds just to get there. It "might" pop, and the remains would fall to the ground, and it might chip the paint, or scuff it.

Don't let the video fool you, that train is a very long ways away, and ricochet'd bullets don't generally maintain any semblance of spin stability after hitting something hard enough to drastically alter it's course. I'd bet that a spotter tracer shot from a smooth bore .50 bmg wouldn't go 1,000 yards. A wadcutter from a pistol would probably have a higher BC (internet sarcasm) than a tumbling .50 round.

I am sure your right. Not like you were shooting AMax or anything. It does give the illusion of being pretty close.
Some of tha 690 on 1/2 plate. After it went through the plate it went about a foot and a half into hard boulder. If I am not mistaken Maximum range on BMG is around 7500 yards give or take. Of course that is at a high angle. Just sayin'

they are fun , BUT, dont buy good steel for tha 50, go by the scrap yard , get some chunky stuff shoot it up and scrap it back out save yer self some dough. save the ar 500 for the "regular" stuff. nice vid though
