I picked this up yesterday for 40$ and gave it an extensive cleaning. The bore looks like a mirror with very strong rifling. I belive this is an early war 99. with a terrible sporterisation on the stock, which ill be replacing soon. Thats about all the information i have been able to gather. If anyone has information on this rifle, the history of them, year manufactured, how to adjust the sights, maintenance, value, reloading info, i would love to know it.

Here are some pictures:

Well for $40 you got a great deal. It also has the Antiaircraft sights which is good. Unfortunately the MUM is ground off. You did not show any pictures of the butt plate, but if it has screws that is good, if it is nailed it makes it a last ditch rifle. Get a proper stock on it and you should be golden. Ammo is hard to find, and I would currently advise against using any of the Hornady/Grafs ammo. Apparently they had a bad batch, and though Grafs has removed it from their shelves, it does not mean its caught everywhere. The good news is if you are a reloader, and are not afraid of a little work, you can use 30-06 brass to make 7.7. Just keep it separate and marked from any other ammo so it does not get mixed up. Best bet would be using some once fired HXP. It looks good, and should be worth a few bucks with a proper stock. You can find a reproduction sling on ebay for less than $30. I am currently getting rid of all my asian stuff, and have an Arisaka listed for $400 obo, just to give you a reference. I do not know to many other details, and though they are neat, I am just trying to refocus my collection, and since I do not know much more than what I have posted here, mine needs to go. Hope this helps a little.

Thank you. It does have the screws on the buttplate. I do reload for my garand so ive got plenty of brass. Ill look into reloading that.

Like I said just keep it organized and separate. I know of a guys who used an etching machine on the base to help identify what something it. 30-06 brass is really good stuff to have, you can use it to make 7.7 Jap, 270 win and 8mm Mauser that I know of, not really sure if there are any other calibers that can be made using 30-06 brass, but it fits all my needs.
