Well I’m struggling to find property to shoot on past 300-400 yards so I think it’s time to invest in a 22lr so at least I can still get some fun in!

right now from one of the suppliers in Canada I can get the Kukri 20” or 22” version but nothing else. The other supplier might have 1 20” mtu left but they are getting back to me otherwise I have to special order. Does there seem to be a preferred barrel length or contour between these two. Is it worth special ordering? With the dollar tanking recently new orders will most likely be a few hundred more, vs getting one in stock

I would also recommend the 18" MTU. The 20" Kukri may be an option. Most of the advertised barrel lengths tend to run 1" - 1.5" shorter. Have them measure the actual barrel to action if possible. The extra weight helps w/ balance on the MTU while keeping the overall length shorter. My 18" Kukri is close to 16" actual. If your'e not running a suppressor, the 22" Kukri is a good option too.

I went with a 18” kukri but I would have went MTU if I was to do it over again.

it depends on what you want to do with it. If just bench work or PRS stuff.

90% of it will just be for fun/target/practice. The precision 22 is just taking off in Canada so there isn’t a ton of matches yet.But wouldn’t mind being ready for it when it does.

why would you go with the mtu if you were to do it over?

surpressors are illegal in Canada so that’s out. I figured the 22” Kukri would run similar weight to the 18” mtu plus added velocity or is it not similar to centerfire that way? So the added weight to balance out a rig, and the shorter for better maneuverability vs a 20 or 22”? I’m just so use to getting a 26-27”bbls on my centerfires lol

Well I run mine suppressed but the Kukri is a little too light paired with a carbon stock. The MTU might sell the the slight jump I have now when I pull the trigger.

I'd go with the MTU as well just to have it more balanced with traditional stocks/chassis. Most stocks/chassis made for the competition world and are made to balance well with competition 24" barrels. For my rifle, I had to add about 2lbs up front to get it to balance well, which does help when shooting off barricades.

MTU is about .75lbs heavier than the Kukri, which would help a lot.

In terms of "recoil" I've never worried about that with a 22 and I wouldn't expect a MTU or Kukri to shoot any better/worse than the other.

I like the Kukri profile. I picked up an 18” Kukri and I shoot 1/2moa to around 300, then I definitely get a little wonky with it. I routinely hit 400m targets, but my inexperience with 22 at those distances doesn’t make those stacked shots. I run barricades with it but I also turn it over to my 12 year old daughter who trains with it for, hopefully, future matches.

I dropped mine in a KRG Bravo, prior to it was in a Greyboe, I liked the Grayboe but it was a little bulky for my daughter and the length of pull was just a bit long.

SK+ all day, I know people drop some money on ammo chasing those .01 groups, I have run Center Xs, and the Norma Match, my Vudoo chews up everything, and spits out good groups. I had a carbon ring form around at 500 and it was really threw things off, once I figured it out it was back in action.

I don’t think you’ll regret any version of the Vudoo in my opinion.

Okay thanks everyone. I guess I have some thinking to do!! Right now with the 18 or 20” Kukri I can get it for 2499.00 where as ordering an mtu would be 2700-2850 that’s the reason I was asking. It looks like the second supplier was mistaken and they don’t have an mtu.

rifle will have a trigger tech diamond, and was debating on trying a krg chassis this time, bravo or x-ray.

I have a 20” MTU on mine. I really like it. If it was me, if I’m spending good money for a 22, I would get whatever I want. If you want an MTU contour, then just get it.

I originally wanted the Kukri 20” barrel, just seemed like a Good middle ground, heavy enough I thought without being a ton, long enough not to look odd in some chassis yet still short for Manoeuvrability Incase I happen to shoot a bunch of comps, but the mtu seems to be the preferred choice which had me second guessing

Here's a breakdown of length and weight for all the profiles.

Bingo,

I got a 18" Kukri Vudoo, to try and bridge the gap between having a rimfire my 5 and 8 year old would enjoy shooting, and something I could use for matches/practice. It's still too heavy for them to maneuver decently, but light enough to where i have to focus on clean shots..

I run mine suppressed and it’s a 22” kukri, it’s too long IMO and I would do a 20” MTU if I were to do it over. Since your not going suppressed I feel the 22” kukri is pretty ideal. I don’t think there is a wrong way to go, you will love the vudoo and it’s worth the coin.

Have used most all of them. 18” kukri, 22” mtu, 22”kukri, 20” mtu

Ended up staying with a 22” kukri. It balanced the best for me. Performance is virtually identical for all of them. Have run bartlein and ace. Shoot the same.

Also, the measurement for the barrel length is from the breech face to muzzle.

I like it, if there’s any performance benefit to the MTU, it’s got to be minute, even a longer barrel. There’s definitely personal reasons to prefer one over the other but in the end for a 22, I liked the versatility of the 18” Kukri, even with a slighter lighter barrel, hammering a small target at 100m from a barricade is a pretty easy task! Remembering to make a wind call for 1mph that’s the tricky part!

Also +1 TS on the TT Diamond I love that diamond in my vudoo it’s such a great trigger.

@KarbarNC, Did you shoot that match at Frontline? The PRL22 match in December?

Just saw NC in the name, making an assumption that means North Carolina lol.

Thanks everyone, doesn’t seem like I could go wrong one way or another!! I’d be leaning for an 18 or 20” so mainly beteeen the 20” Kukri and 18” mtu. I’m just speaking with my distributor to see if he has more coming in and at what price otherwise I’ll be grabbing the 20” kukri
