I recently purchased some gear from Roy at http://www.sotconsulting.com/

Let me start off by saying if anyone needs quality custom gear at amazing prices talk to Roy. He takes the time to listen and make a product that fits your needs. This is the second time I have ordered from him and I will be ordering the rest of my gear from him in the future.

I will start with the drag bag. As a very novice shooter I looked over many pieces of gear and at the time decided that an Ultimate Drag Bag from Voodoo was what I needed. I soon found out after a few trips to the range and after taking a long range class that it was too bulky. I looked for several options for a light way to carry my rifle.

Enter SOT. I came across Roy's drag bag at it was almost what I wanted. http://shop.SOTCONSULTING.COM/multicam-Drag-bag-rifle-case-drag-bag.htm So having ordered from him before I gave him a call to see if he could make some changes, and this is what we came up with.

The first thought was that I wanted some MOLLE on the sides, just in case I wanted to add a pouch to the side, or use the MOLLE to attache it to a larger pack. The next change was to add some buckles to the flap that folds over to secure the rifle when carried muzzle up. The buckles can then be adjusted to hold the rifle firmly in the bag. He also added some D-rings and a shoulder strap.

I am a real stickler for attention to detail, and I am very impressed with Roy's work. He added little elastic straps to tie things up and keep everything looking clean.

My .308 is in the middle of getting built, but here is a size comparison to see how much room there is for a rifle. This is my Sako Quad .22 trainer, but it sports a full size Manners T4 stock and Nightforce F1. The barrel length is 20". There is plenty of room for a longer barrel and/or LOP and you can keep your bipod on as well.

I am extremely happy with how this bag turned out. It's light and easy to carry. Sturdy and well padded to protect my gun and optic. It can be rolled up when not in used and tied or stored in my pack, and possibly used as a mat if it's the only thing available. Because it's closed, debris is easily kept out.

Re: SOT Gear Review

The next piece of gear was one that just came to mind all of a sudden one day. I was tired of going to the range and having all my tools lose in a bag or pouch. I had Roy make me a tool pouch to hold all my small tools that I need to do some field work on both my Sako and Rem 700.

It's not fully loaded right now, but as is, it holds the following:

Seekonk 65# and 15# wrenches
Two sets of alan wrenches, metric and standard
feeler gauges
Jags and brushes
Rag gun oil and patches

What I still need to put in is a small screw driver with a few bits.

The tool taco, as I like to call it, is very practical since I can grab all my tools at once and keeps them from flying around all over the place.

Another handily accessory is the bolt lock. It's a simple elastic cord that wraps around the scope and keeps your bolt from being accidentally opened. This is going to come in handy when I have to carry my rifle with an empty chamber indicator. I can insert the indicator and secure the bolt in place with this. That way the bolt isn't flopping around and it keeps the indicator from falling out. I got it for my .308, but it works just as well on my .22.

Lastly I got an ammo wallet. I still have to find some round inserts for it, but it's just as convenient as the tool pouch. It keeps dirt and debris out and is compact.

Again, if anyone wants top quality custom gear, Roy is the man. Great prices, friendly service, and a quick turn around.

Re: SOT Gear Review

Pretty neat... you are correct about the Voodoo bag, in that if you want to stow away the bag you cant as its too bulky. I guess if your after something compact and thin the drag bag you have is right on the money.

Again, i think your Quad is awesome!
