Re: Southwest Ammo .308

Those are pretty different results. One has SD of 25 (bad), the other has SD of 7.9 (great).

I get 18 fps with FGMM, but that is with 30 shots, not 10. For 10 shots, it is more like 16 fps.

I have been shooting this ammo for some time now and have been through a ton of it.

I can say that I have NEVER seen results as the OP posted. SW ammo has been extremely consistent.

What chrono did you use?

Re: Southwest Ammo .308

Thats very odd to me. You are getting anywhere from 60-120 fps numbers off of 2 inchs of barrel.

Probably should have done a comparison between the 2 lots with the same rifle, but thanks for posting.

Another thing to think about is quality of barrel effect the fps on the same lenght of barrel, ie 20" factory barrel vs. 20" aftermarket barrel?

Seeing a factory barrel shoot slower than a custom is almost a normal occurrence.

I did do a test of the 2 lots with the same rifle. The first 5 shots were with 1 lot, the last 5 with another. You can see that it stayed very consistent.

Ive tested SW ammo numerous times, this was not a full blown eval. I was just adding my chrono numbers to the mix to show a much tighter ES & SD compared to what the OP posted.

What am I missing here? I did this.

Well there you have it!

Shooting Chrony's are the LEAST reliable source of chrono information on a load.

My experience mirrors KNIGHT11B4's- 16-20 SD's when shot over CED and when I'm lucky, our local Sheriff's Office's Oehler

Southwest's 308 is about some good shit.

Re: Southwest Ammo .308

Nice. I left them three voicemails trying to buy some ammo from them. Ended up going with factory federal SMKs. Maybe next time

Yup Knight used my CED. And it was checked against another rifle we shot, and it showed the value I was expecting for that ammo.

Really? I have had a great experience ordering ammo from them, really good customer service. Last time order 100 rounds of the run-n-gun 175gr SMK 308s and when I got it I found that half the order was of 147gr FMJ rounds. I called them up and they sent me the correct 175gr SMKs right way.

I apologize for this. We switched phone companies recently and weren't receiving all of our voicemailes for a time, had only one line, and no call waiting. This should be sorted out now.

Re: Southwest Ammo .308

The customer service was fantastic for me too; I'm going back out this weekend and will chrono more on a different chrono and see if there is any difference in the results.

Re: Southwest Ammo .308

Thanks for taking the time to post the chrono numbers. If you are unhappy with the performance of the ammunition at all, feel free to call me for replacdment or refund.

The numbers from the first post are off from our typical results and lot to lot spot tests. Typically, we see 2585 with a 19.5" Remington barrel, and 2650 with a 24". The Bartlien barriels are typically faster than stock as well. SDs are usually in the 10-15 fps area, and for anything approaching 20 (which is rare), we tear down, clean, re-lube, and tighten the machine.

Thanks,

Mike

They shot well, I don't want my OP to look like a complaint at all. I bought a chrono the day before and brought it out to get some data and was just reporting the numbers. I will take more measurements the next time I am out and see if it (whatver it is) settles down.

Here is a 5 shot group at 300 yards. Red circle diameter is 2.000. can't complain here.
