I know most people will say that the 155 Scenars are the best BC/grain combo for the 308, but the other day I ran across this:

http://www.speer-bullets.com/ballistics/detail.aspx?id=96

Speer has a 168gr bullet with a .534 BC. I read around and saw that the old BC for this bullet was .480, but if you check their website and 'Ballistic' on the iPhone, it states the BC as .534.

Does anyone have any experience with these bullets? I would love to test these at distance vs my 155s.

I can't imagine the Speer stated BC being correct.

Re: Speer 168 vs 155 Lapua Scenar

I would be very suspect over Speer's G1 number of .534 for a 168 grain bullet.

Lapua Scenar 155 G7 BC 0.236 G1 BC 0.462

Berger 155.5 Fullbore G7 BC 0.237 G1 BC 0.464

Berger 168 VLD G7 BC 0.242 G1 BC 0.473

Berger 175 GR LRBT G7 BC 0.264 G1 BC 0.515

The above are tested BC's, therefore real. I would think Speer's are computer generated, hence not real world.

IMHO, YMMV,

BobinNC, I thought the Lapua scenar had a BC of .508, and the 168gr Sierra has the BC of .462?? </div></div>

Yes, Lapua Claims 0.508. As tested by Bryan Litz, no. Lapua has a 11% error in their listed G1 BC. Per this PDF article.

Lapua 155 gr

Re: Speer 168 vs 155 Lapua Scenar

BC isn't the only thing to consider when choosing a bullet.

One thing you will find out when you start looking into it a little deeper is that Nobody, I say again, Nobody, uses Speer bullets in longrange competition.

There are just too many other choices such as Berger, JLK, Lapua, and Sierra. You'll see Hornady Amax before you'll see Speer.

There's gotta be a reason you don't see them.

I have shot the 168 SMK and the 168 Speer both loaded the exact same and even though the Speer has an advertised higher BC, the DOPE was the same as the SMK at the 1000 yard line for me.

I've shot a few boxes over the years, still have some here. Same part number and they shoot well. All things being equal, I'd rather have the SMKs or the Scenars, but you're not going to be crying in your beer if you could only shoot the Speer bullets.

As far as their claimed BC, I'm thinking that they'r overly optimistic.

I should measure the ogive and compare it to some of the other bullets in that weight class that I have here.
