Newbie needs help. Looking to scope an M1A scout in a sage stock for a utility gun. Will be using it to shoot everything from soup to nuts: p-dogs, paper, steel, coyotes, possibly even a deer or antelope. CO and WY plains shooting, so distances could easily exceed the gun. Looking at: SS 10X HD, IOR 2.5-10 X 42, Vortex Viper 4-16 x 50. I like the SS price, the IOR reticle, and the Vortex as a package. Not sure if an AO is really neccary, but I don't think the IOR has this feature. Input much appreciated.

Re: Spend my money for me.

On a non-precision semi auto, I'd prefer a variable. If you have a budget, the SS 3-9x42 seems to get good marks. If you can afford more I just got a NF 2.5-10x32 which is awesome! No experience with IOR I dont like the way they look.

Re: Spend my money for me.

ACOGs are annoying on M1As unless you have a short enough stock to allow you to get close enough to the ACOG. They have such a short eye relief.

A SS 3-9x42 is a fantastic option. I have a Weaver Tactical Grand Slam 3-10x40 on mine. I also have a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x on order. If you can wait a couple more months, you can get the PST for $599 and have the best of all worlds. They're starting to ship now.

Otherwise, my vote goes to stay with the SS 3-9x42 that Tiger suggested.

Re: Spend my money for me.

I've got two of the SWFA SS 3-9X42 scopes, one on a LMT MWS the other on a M1A NM. Best scope for you application under $1,200.00 and Hide members get a discount if they use the code.

Re: Spend my money for me.

Where might one find the discount code for the SS 3-9? Also, I'm assuming that not having a parallax adjustment is of no major concern??
