Spotting Scope & Range Finder

Does anyone make a spotting scope and range finder in one? It seems like these two pieces of equipment would be really handy combined. I have heard that people sometimes have a problem holding the range finder steady enough to properly range long targets. So, having the range finder on a tripod with some higher magnification would be advantageous, right?

Re: Spotting Scope & Range Finder

As far as electric range finding capabilities, I have not seen anything. I know there are range finders built into rifle scopes and attached to bows (bushnell) and many companies make the ranging binos.

I did run accross the vortex 10 x 50 Recon R/T Tactical spotter with a range estimating recticle.

Post if you find anything else. I would be interested in checking it out.

Well, a range finding reticle is nice if you don't already have one in your rifle scope. But yes, I was thinking of a laser range finder in a spotting scope.

Re: Spotting Scope & Range Finder

There are none, and I would not expect to see one. Since spotting scopes are pretty much required to be mounted on tripods and they have a smaller field of view, placing an LRF inside is pretty limiting. Bino units are the way to go, they are the primary optic used in scanning for targets, they can be small and handheld, and if of good quality you don't even require a spotting scope at all. I do a fair bit of my spotting during classes with the Vector's, with which I can locate, range, direct the shooter and spot impacts without the need to setup the spotter on the tripod.
