I'm looking for a quick recommendation for a quality, reasonably priced (~ $500) spotting scope. I've had my eye on the Leupold Sequoia 20-60x80 but don't want to make a mistake. I have a Leupold scope today and like the quality of their products.

Re: Spotting Scope Recommendation

I made the mistake of buying a Sequoia Green Ring (made in Korea). It looked good in the store but when I took it out to the range it would not resolve 22 caliber holes past 50 yards. I talked to Leupold and sent it in. They called me back and offered an up grade to their Gold Ring 15-30X 50mm scope kit for $30. I took it and it's a great scope. Someone else posted a thread "The little scope that could" praising the same kit. It cost $400-$500 depending on who you buy it from. Stay away from the Sequoia and get a Gold Ring. Just my experience with the Sequoia.

Re: Spotting Scope Recommendation

Skip the Leupold Sequoia. I was in a shop once looking through one at a white wall with diamond shaped holes across a street. I asked a few of my friends, to take a peek through. Right away, they saw the heavy CA around each diamond holes. The whole image was a wall of blue and purple.
