I am finding it difficult to see my holes at 100 yards through many of my scopes but would like to start pushing my shooting out to 150 yards from time to time. I am not ready for 200 yards yet, but can see the natural progression bringing the attempts sometime later this year. I am wanting to get a spotting scope but do not want to be disappointed that my spotter works fine at 150 yds but fails at 200 yards. I am not really crazy about spending $2000 on a spotting scope at this point in my financial life. Any recommendations for scopes that i will be happy with at 200 yards? Good resale value is also nice just in case i want to move up to a Swarovski 80mm in the future.

ida is right on with the steel at 150 qand 200. I suggest you build or buy 6" and 12" swinging gong that you can attach to a stand. Another advantage to shooting suspended steel is that you can see the impacts from misses better and make your correction verses having to try and see holes in the white of the target. There are some companies here on the hide that build some really nice steel targets and with shooting .22's at should last you a very long time. Plus it is always more fun to shoot things and make them move.

As to your scope question I have been pleasantly surprised wiht the performance of my Bushnell Excursion and having a mil reticle in it makes it nice for calling adjutments while spotting for someone else. Plus the Bushnell is about the third of the cost of Leupold M4 spotting scope.

Good luck on your quest.

Konus definetly seems to get great reviews and I am in the same boat, I don't want to spend the big money on a spotting scope but I do want to be able to spot hits at 200/300 yards secifically for the comps here on the 'Hide. Not being able to make corrections sucks, period, and a good set of steel targets doesn't help me personally. It's more fun but shooting for score isn't done on steel in the matches I plan to shoot in...

Leupold Wind River Sequoa 15-45 x 60 will be under $300. At that price you don't have to worry about resale. Stepping, the Kowas are very popular.

I have had the same problem seeing 22 holes at longrange. I tryed a spotting scope but i didnt like getting out of position to look through one plus the time it takes. Since 22s are really push around by the wind. So i put a scope with enough power on my 22 to see the bullet holes with it. I can now see 22 holes past 300 usally
