Considering moving my Vortex 4000 off a gas gun and onto my spotting scope. SS has rails at the 9/12/3 o'clock to mount it so all options available.

Any general lessons learned from others who have done similar and/or things to consider?

This is the setup for my Spotter 60.

Like the pic above, it can be tricky to co-align the laser with the scope without some mount that has azimuth and elevation control. But that’s if you want to make it so you can lase what you’re looking at through the scope, which sometimes isn’t worth it. I did that for a while as a single unit with an APO mount, it later just moved the combo to a bench platform and mounted the LRF in a separate ball mount. Less hassle; you can still align if you want, just make sure you’ve got the combo on a common mount so movement moves the two together.

This setup has worked very well for me. Not the vortex, but same premise.

I measured the offset between center of optic to aiming laser. Then applied that to a target downrange converting the measurement to mils at 100yds. I then set the aiming laser at the same height using the reticle. Should then be a continuous parallel at distance.

Thanks. Do you keep the fire mounted there permanently? Or does your storage/transpo setup require you to remove it between range days and remount?
