I'm looking to dress up a beat up 1911 I have. Which spray on is the way to go on stainless? I used some alumahyde 2 on an ar before but that's about it. What's the prep for creokoate? I do not currently have a way to beadblast anything.

Re: spray on finishes on stainless

To get the finish to stick best you do not want to "beadblast" anything. You will want to use media or grit since the beads polish it in a way. It will stick but not near as well as it will using aluminum oxide blasting media.

I use to take my parts I needed blasted to a friends house and do it until I purchased my own stuff. If you have a smith in your area they might be willing to give it a good once over with a blaster for a fair price.

Re: spray on finishes on stainless

If done correctly you will be very satisfied with a cerakote finish. There are several large scale manufacturers that are now using cerakote. Remington and Nighthawk are two off the top of my head.
If you are wanting black and are wanting a really good wear resistance, ionbond is a great way to go on stainless.
