Springfield Armory Scope question

Sorry to unearth an old and very unpopular subject but...

I bought one of these (Gen 3, illuminated mil dot reticle) about ten years ago and never bothered to configure the BDC. I just sighted it in and used it. For my humble purposes, it has worked great.

However, a friend asked why I never calibrated the BDC or what seems to be a BDC. My stupid answer is that the process wasn't in the manual.

Double-checking the manual and the link above, I see nothing. Google is equally helpful. Searching this fine forum I find a lot of for sales and complaints...

What I have are marks on the elevation turret in increments of 100 yards. My rifle is sighted in for 200 yards and the provided 200 yards line is no where close. There are two set screws that seem to lock the adjustment cap.

Has anyone ever gotten one of these adjusted? Was it worth doing? Could you tell me what you did?

Much thanks!

One of the two set screws can sort of be seen.

Maybe another way to ask the question... What are the numbers here for? Do they do anything?

Thanks,
