My XD that I have had for about 3 years is having some issues. I am having primer strikes too light to fire factory ammo. Last time it was fired was at a match when I let a buddy try out an XD he was considering. Now it wont shoot at all. I have taken it down to the firing pin and it appears to be fine ( not definite signs of breakage or pieces.

Does anyone have any experience with this or similar issue? The primers on the rounds have been struck but barely nicked or not with enough force to cause it to fire.

It has had Robar Custom work on it. trigger, frame, finish etc.

I have never had one failure until now.

Any help or knowledge would be appreciated.

With the age of the pistol (and not knowing the total round count), I would suggest a complete stripping of the entire slide assembly and a thorough inspection and cleaning of the entire assembly from head to toe, reassembly and re-lubricating where needed.

At a minimum if you don't want to go that far, check to make sure that your Striker Spring, Striker Spring Guide, and Striker Status Indicator are all clean, free from any debris and that the striker canal is clean. Pay close attention to the striker status indicator because they are plated and if they start flaking...then can impede the striker mechanism and cause light strikes like what it sounds like you are experiencing.

Re: Springfield tactical XD .45 Auto Failure issues

that is a common problem with xd"s that have had trigger jobs done on them.
the problem usually is found out to be the striker/firing pin block is not fully being lowered enough to let the striker get a full power strike on the primer and is also componded by the weaker firing pin spring that is installed when the trigger job is done .
other issues that can cause this problem is a broken or weak firing pin/striker spring and broken roll pin that holds the striker /firing pin .
if you do a search on http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/ you will find out everything youll want to know about the problem your having

My money is on this. Every time mine has had light strikes there was crud in the channel. Very common for folks that try to oil the the striker and striker spring.

This was done I broke this pistol down to every component Pins, springs, etc not just a basic field strip. I then soaked, cleaned, lubbed each part and reassembled.

I then loaded a primer into some clean brass and fired it outside to see if it would fire and it did so I thought I was good. But first trip back to the range it failed again....

Robar did one of their XD makovers on this pistol and I have fired plent of rounds flawlessly before this.

thanks for the links

Damn I just called Spriendfield about this and all they say is that I didnt clean the "gunk" out of my receiver correctly and that I need to let it sit in solvent , blow some copressed air over it and try again. WTF...

I already cleaned and dried the crap out of it.

Re: Springfield tactical XD .45 Auto Failure issues

Maybe try a couple different kind of factory ammunition? If the brass isn't resized or crimped correctly it can chamber too deeply and give you a light primer strike. Could explain why a clean, unloaded round fired the primer just fine...
