I have been looking at buying one of these and was wondering what a reasonable price for one lightly used is. I have read about they used to run around 1200 but now they are up to about 1500. Also does any idea what year they switched from the brown grips to the black ones they are carrying now? I had a sig 1911 but sold it after reading all of the bad press. Really don't want to spend more then 1200 but want to get the most for my money. Plan to use it as a daily cc piece.

Check gunbroker.com and see what some are going for. Also, are you set on a 1911 for carry? There are plenty of polymer handguns that are reliable and sized nicely for carry.

I have been keeping my eye on gunbroker. I have a glock 19 and a sig 229. The sig is currently my carry gun but I really like 1911's.

I really like 1911s too, but with so many other choices for carry I dont think they are the best choice unless you are willing to spend a lot of money and time to be sure they are reliable. I wouldn't recommend going smaller than commander size in a 1911 either.
That being said, I have had good experience with the Springfield TRP. Good mags like Wilson 47Ds are a big part of the reliability equation. In the end though, nothing substitutes for just getting out there and shooting a LOT of your carry ammo and making sure it will be reliable. Dont forget to shoot single weakhand as that is where you will find some ejection problems if the timing is close.

might want to look at a 4in for carry, but if you are set on a full size 1911, a trp is a nice gun.

I carried a TRP Operator for the first year I had my permit. It's heavy, I carry a Kimber Tactical Ultra II now, but know what? It was just a great excuse to get another 1911. I love my springfield.

I have had the TRP and a Loaded Operator. TRP all steel, the Loaded alum frame/steel slide. The weight difference is that of a loaded magazine essentially! So you hear/read 7-9oz of difference. Ahhh, that is nothing right? Carry it on your hip for a day and you do notice the difference!
I carry G21/30 for duty use uniform/plain clothes. I can totally sense a difference when I carry the G30.
What is my point!? As others have said, I'd strongly recommend another sidearm for CCW carry vs a full-size steel 1911. If you want the 1911 for fun and occasional carry, the TRP is a fun firearm!
If you're lucky used, $950-$1100. New, anywhere from $1350 and up.

Thanks for the info. I was carrying a Sig tac ops carry in a cross bread holster and after 6 or 7 hours it would get heavy. I am really looking at getting one of the full rail verison trp operators when I can find one. I may go the route of only carrying it occasionally and sticking with the glock 19 and sig 229 for times I know I am going to be wearing for a extended period. I know the full rail makes it even heavy and damn are they hard to find.

springfield loaded w/ aluminum frame. chopped off the back and put in a bobtail. it's my favorite carry gun.
one of these days i'm going to finish blending the back and refinish it... one of these days.
