I am a reloader and have a load developed for my that is very accurate. The load I am currently using is a 168gr Amax with 42grs of Varget with Winchester brass and CCI primers seated .010 off the lands. On a good day it is capable of much less than half inch accuracy at 100 yards. Here lately with work I have not been enjoying reloading the way I used to. I am looking for a factory match load. I have tried the 168gr Federal Gold medal match but it didn't do very good. I have ordered Southwest Ammo's 168gr amax, 155gr scenar premium, 175gr SMK, Hornady 168gr amax, Hornady 178gr superformance match, Hornady 178gr HPBT match, Black Hills 175gr HPBT match and Black Hills Gold 168gr amax. I will try all of these this weekend. I might also order some 175 Gold Medal Match. What other ammo would be good to try for the SPS Tactical?

Re: SPS Tactical Factory Match Load

Thanks for the reply. I may need to pick some up. I thought I might get more responses than this even though I know every rifle is different. I was hoping some of the guys that shoot this rifle and factory ammo might offer some suggestions of what they use for me to try. I have also ordered some 175gr Gold Medal Match.

Re: SPS Tactical Factory Match Load

Is your sps tactical 1:12 or 1:10 twist?
I have 1:10 and have a wide variety of rounds to try this weekend and see what works best too.
Hornady: SST 165gr, 168gr Amax, 178gr BTHP superformance
Federal: FGMM SMK 168gr and BTHP

Re: SPS Tactical Factory Match Load

I think you've probably covered the mot common. The Hornady non superformance 168 Amax match load shoots .5MOA to 300yds in my 1:12 700. The Hornady 155 Palma loading shoots about .75MOA. Nosler CC 168 BTHP is around 1MOA but most affordable in this locale.

Re: SPS Tactical Factory Match Load

The group I shot with the Hornady 168 Amax looks promising but I think I am going to go with Southwest Ammo. I ran three different loads through the chrony this morning and the extreme spread was very good. The 155gr Scenar extreme spread was 34fps, 168gr Amax extreme spread was 20fps and the 175gr sierra matchking ES was 18fps. The velocity on the Scenar averaged 2766fps so I will probably use this round or the Amax that averaged 2556fps. I am going to buy a few more boxes for more accuracy testing before I make my final decision. Southwest ammo has impressed me quite a bit. I also ran a test of the 77gr SMK southwest ammo in my AR-15. It had an ES of 5fps. Now that is impressive. I never would have thought you could load that consistent of ammmo from a factory.

All chrony testing was done using 3 round groups.
