Hello all,

I recently won an sr25 on gunbroker and I've decided to swap out the handguard on it, to put my old school sr25 ras ff rail instead. I know that might sound weird to go backwards, but I just don't care for the handguard being flush with the muzzle brake and i don't care for the way it feels in my hand.
Unfortunately I've scoured the get recourses of the internet and I can't find a urx wrench to save my life. I'm wondering has anyone on here ever removed this handguard without the wrench tool? That or does anyone have one they're will to part with for a week or two?

nn8734 thanks for the reply and info, fortunately I have the older version of the ff ras with the locking ring and install tool for that. Unfortunately however I'm thinking that the urx 4 wrench doesn't come with the rifle that I bought brand new. Finding a urx 4 wrench is like mining for gold, being knight proprietary parts and what not. Last resort would be to send it to nsdefense to be disassembled and hand guard swapped over. I just prefer to work on everything myself.
But again gents, thanks for the replys and information ?

Yes you need the mod 2 gas block tools to disassemble also. Not just the URX4 wrench. I had a spanner I had to modify for the nut but I would say only about half of the gas blocks come off without that proper KAC puller tool. If you can fit a punch in the hand guard through the Mlok or keymod slots you can tap it off. And by tap I mean hammer.

I was probably the first one if not one of the very first folks to put the URX3.1 on a mod2 barrel/gas system gun years ago. I had a thread up on another forum with the clearance numbers and all that. It's very close to hitting the rail but just every so slightly cleared. Not sure if you will have any issues with the RAS.

When I took apart a few Mod2 SR25s that the gas block would come off... using the URX4 hand guard removal tool, I still had to use a lot of heat to break the rail loose. I though I was going to break the thing. Same with taking the barrel out of the receiver. It was so tight as almost to be press fit.

My recommendation is send it to Jack or Kay over at KAC or just send it to Marvin Pitts.

It's going to save you a ton of trouble.

jwknutson17 fantastic info sir, I've decided that this is a project for someone else. When it comes to this sr25 I don't want to jack it up, so I've decided either Marvin Pitts or dwilsonmfg. I actually bought one of his modified urx 3.1 barrel nuts for the sr25, so I can use the newer urx 3.1 wrench. But, man that was some solid info and advice I'm glad I joined to get some knowledge from members. ?

@HornDog87 - Marvin did some work on my EMR, including shortening the barrel to 18.5” and threading the muzzle 3/4 x 24 as well as dimpled the barrel...I swear, it looks identical to KAC factory dimpling down to the size, shape, spacing and depth of each dimple. Not a scratch or tooling mark anywhere.

If you want, PM me and I’ll provide some pics when I get home.
