Hey guys - I'm picking up an SRS A1 soon and I'm having an incredibly hard time trying to figure out what will be the best optic for this rifle. Here's my criteria:

1) It's a 22" barrel model, and I can't have suppressors in my shit hole state, so I don't want something huge like a 5-25x56 optic that's almost as long as the gun is. I want to balance the rifle out and not have a ton of weight in the front end.

2) The longest range I have in my area is 1000 yards, so I don't need huge magnification, 17-20ish power is plenty.

3) Want to keep the scope under $2k

4) Really want 34/35mm tube, and the lighter the better

Here's what I have so far on my list:

A) Leupold Mk6
B) IOR Valdata 3.5-18x50

What are your suggestions?

Neither A or B! Keep a lookout on the optics section for a Tangent Theta 3-15M. I picked up my last one there for $2200. Either that or watch for a 4-16 ATACR.

Regards,

Todd

Here's a couple pics of my SRS A1 and my Covert. I have the 5-25 on my SRS and the 3-15 on the Covert.

I had an mk6. I hated that optic. Picky eye box, glass sucked, etc. I would go for the 4-16x42 in that price range. I agree the TT315M is amazing, I had one, only sold it for the 5-25. And ior, well, I'll let everyone else tell you about those. I can personally say customer service wasn't great in my experience and all I bought was a mount.
I would also be on the lookout for a bushnell dmr2 in that price range. You can find gen2 razors once in awhile for that budget in the px and that is an amazing optic for the money. Don't think you can get better and it's decently short for the mag range. Remember, always better to have it and not need it than to need it and say oh shit.

Covert is as Covert does.

Plenty of good feedback on the scout site.

I would go for that ATACR given your budget and wants. My 4-16x42 smoked my mk6 in all aspects.

I agree. A short compact scope compliments the SRS well. The 4-16 ATACR is a super solid scope that I find easy to get behind. If you can get a deal on it I'd say go for it.

I use March 3-24x52 and 42mm on my DTA's. Easy zero stop for barrel changes, right at your budget.....I bought both of mine used on here for less than your budget. On an already heavy gun I like the short, light and compact March's over anything else.

Do NOT buy and IOR and a Leupold doesn't compare to a the scopes mentioned in this thread.

I really like the March, but I hate that it's a 30mm tube. Is it worth it going for something in 34mm?

I had the March 3-24x52 as well. Size and weight wise it's a good fit on an srs. And the glass is great. Like really really good. Up there with s&b. The reticle is pretty thick though so that becomes something you want to consider. Again, if you're not looking for a 24x or 25x optic and you don't want to spend ultra short money, Imo your best option for overall ruggedness and reliability with performance is going to be the 4-16 atacr.
