hey how much better is the 10x42 hd than the regular side focus 10x42? is it worth the extra cost? what do you think the best glass is for under $1k

I've heard the glass is much better. The reticule is different as well. I have the ss10x42m and I'm considering the hd model for my next upgrade. I just wished they came up with a hd that has a side focus.

If my eyes could use the 10X to do everything that I wanted, I would have the HD model on my rifle. If you can use the 10X, then you will be very happy with the HD scope. Lot of scope for the money.

I like the glass and the reticle a lot more with the HD. Also easier to range and dial in with the mrad turret.

The HD not only has much better glass, and mil turrets, it is also much more robust design. SWFA has a couple on the Sample List, which makes the price a bit better...

I had a 10x42m several years ago, then I switched to a 3.5-10 mk4m1, and now I run a 10xhd. It's twice, if not 3x the scope the 10x42m is as far as durability, design, and features go. It's also a superior optic to the mk4 if you ask me. As far as value goes, it's hand down the best $800 scope on the market.

I don’t have any experience with high end optics. But while I can definitely see that I could use a glass of better quality, I just don’t see how a scope can be more solid and durable than the SS10X42M. Could someone educate me on this?

I keep thinking of upgrading from SS 10x42M, but also keep realizing that my skills have not passed the capability of this decent scope. The 10x42HD sounds great but for a few hundred more there are used USO ST-10s to be had which would take optics definitely to a higher level.
