I just got her put together last week. It's a Yugo rework with mint bore, Redfield 6X scope with mil dot, and Sierra 175 Prohunter bullets. The five shot group at the upper right were first five shots out of cold bore. The shot group to the bottom left was after windage adjustment. The two shots in between the two groups were the first windage adjustment. Each group was from 100 yards bench rest with one sub 1 inch group and one 1 inch group. These rifles may be 60 some odd years old but some will still tear it up.

Re: SSR Kar98 accuracy

Excellent rifle. I have a VZ 24 that I have diopters and a timney trigger on it. The bore was beautiful, I did a quick accuracy job on it and it shoots touching holes with handloads. Can't knock 'em against anything.

Yours shoots better than a number of the "Top 11 factory rifles in 2009" article from Field and Stream (airport reading).

Re: SSR Kar98 accuracy

I had a verticle stringing problem with it until I figured out the front barrel band was to tight causing the harmonics to be out of wack. The German armoror's report on bedding K98's said the front band was not to be touching the top of the barrel. A dremel took care of that problem. I'm going to do what you did and install a better trigger eventually. It may or may not give me even tighter groups but will certainly feel better than that heavy two stage military pull.

Would you happen to have an electronic copy of that armorer's manual? I'd like to flip through it.

The mauser books I have are pretty good, but more information is always better. They also don't really deal with keeping it in military trim while looking for accuracy, it's all about custom work.

Go to Gunboards.com and type in "Vertical Stringing" in the search engine. On one of the posts that I inquired about someone posted the info for me. I can't seem to get the sight to come up right now.
I believe this is it:gunboards.com/showthread.php?t=142880
