Gunsmithing stainless breaks

Re: stainless breaks

i want to get a holland break but i want it to be the same diameter as my barrel. i want it to look like its part of my barrel. i have a remington 7oo 5r milspec.. i really dont know what the exact o.d. is but i think it is the same as the varmint barrels? .820? please help me out

Re: stainless breaks

The Badger Thruster style brake cane be made to fit your barrel OD but if your gonna take it on and off then it will eventualy get out of time. The Badger FTE brake is bigger than barrel but dies not require timing like the other.
The other option isa brake with holes in it like the Vias and Gentry , I like to time them also but its alot less noticable than the baffle style brakes with they get out of time.

The timing issue is not a problem unless your gonna be swapping back and forth between the brake and a suppressor.

BUT , Surefire , SAS , Ops Inc , AAC all make brakes that are alos suppressor adapters

Re: stainless breaks

Also a brake with radial holes is a pain in the ass if you shoot from the ground.

Nathan Dagley makes a some cool brake that are very effective and can make one that will match your barrel profile , look at his site and click the "muzzle brakes" on the left bar.

Re: stainless breaks

Order a brake from these guys. I have one and it is the best I have used so far.

It is called the LFB (little fat bastard).
A gunsmith who cares about doing high class work will thread the barrel and then turn the brake down to match the barrel contour. Most times it is so good you can't tell where barrel ends and brake begins.
A good alternative is the Thruster from Badger Ordinance.

Re: stainless breaks

My son found a local smith here in WI and he came out with his own breaks and decided to see how it worked compaired to my JP with my 338/300 WSM. It isn't straight contour like you want but it was an improvement over the JP. With the first port being straight it keeps some of the noise and back pressure off of the shooter, I always wear hearing protection.
Here is a link with some vids.
