I curious if using a standard Rem 700 long action with a 3.400" magazine could be modified to feed from a RUM length 3.600" magazine? Does the RUM length bottom metal line up the same with a standard long action? What modifications would have to be done to the bolt?

Ideally, I'd like to have a .473" long action that I could seat some really long bullets way out there, and feed from the much longer factory RUM magazine box.

The RUM action is relieved under the rear receiver ring as well as at the feed ramp to aid feeding of the bigger cartridge.

If you want to build a RUM chambered rifle on a M700 action, it is a pretty good idea to start with a RUM action. Just get a standard SPS hunting rifle as the donor and sell off the rest of the parts.

I'm going the other direction. I want a Standard 30/06 bolt face with a ridiculously long magazine to feed from.

Start with the RUM action as suggested and switch the bolt out for one for your caliber.....

Are you wanting to run 208s? If so I dont think you will gain much if anything. Using aics 300 win magazines and a serengeti reamer I could load out pretty far. I wouldnt load out so far that the bullet does not have full contact with the case neck. You will have to buy an action and a new bolt. I dont know how hard it will be to make the 30-06 feed from a rum mag box. You could probably splice two 30-06 mags together but I dont know.
