Start of a Remington 700 long action build

G'day all ... here's the start of another Remington 700 project ...

Okay, so I still need a barrel, action, trigger and a floor plate, and then I'll have to think about a scope and mounts, but an HS Precision long action Remington 700 stock at the right price is a good start:

Looking to build a flat shooting long range "marksman" type rifle - pretty heavy unit to soak up the recoil and heat.

I've had good experiences with these "straight" (keep it simple) HS Precision stocks and I am now obviously on the lookout for an older Remington 700 long action ... now my questions are:

1: Which calibre (I've always wanted a 300 Win Mag for sheer awesome barrel burning overkill).

2: Which detachable mag floor plate (preferably something that drops straight in to the existing HS Precision stock inlet).

Look forward to the feedback!

I6.5-284.

I would pay the extra cash to have the stock inletted for the Badger M5.

Why not go with a Stiller action. Same price (almost) as a trued up Remington. Bugholes has them in stock as well as Barrels.

IMHO.

I am working on the EXACT same thing right now (but in Lefthand). I have the H-S Precision stock, "Old" 700 BDL LH LA action, Krieger 24" #6 barrel, EGW 20 MOA base.

I am going with 280 Ackley Improved....still trying to find the right optics for it.
