My older Sierra Manual does not list the 300 RUM cartridge. I've emailed Sierra but have not received an answer to my question yet. I would like to load some this weekend as It's raining again and nothing else to do. I've got some 240's, about 16#'s of H50BMG and 200 of pieces Remington brass. So all I really need is an idea of Min/Max loads for this beast. Donald

i have edition V 2nd printing and the only powders it lists are..

AA-3100
RE-22
AA-8700
RE-25
Retumbo
H870

i heard that H870 and H50 are very close in burn rate but you may want to call sierra and ask

Thanks, I did call Friday and was on hold for 30 minutes. Cordless phone battery got weak so I hung up. I've emailed both Sierra and Hogdon but have not received a reply. I'll just start out 10% below Retumbo and work up. H50 is about a slow as it gets on the burn rate charts I've seen. Hogdon list a load for 220's with H50's. And I've got a very good load for 210's with H50. The thing is the driving band on the 240's is about 1.5 longer than the 210 VLD's. I'm sure the peek pressure will be higher with this bullet for that and the weight. Thaks again, Donald

I tried 90.0, 91.0, 92.0, 92.5, 93.0, 93.5 and 94.0 grains today for a latter test. No pressure signs at all. 101.0C is listed as a max for 220's so next test will be for speed and go to 96.0 grains of H50. Just thought I'd set down what seems safe so far.
Donald.

I want to say I tried some 50 bmg powder in the 300 rum with the 22'0s. If I remember correctly, It was dirty, and I NEVER got much speed out of it. Accuracy was pretty good overall though. I did the same with the old H870. Same thing.

Re: Starting load for 240 SMK's and H50BMG in 300

Thanks ffl medic, I shot a latter today and safely made it to 95.0 grains of H50 and the 240 SMK's. No signs yet of pressure. I shot a string of 210's at 98.0 grains of and the brass was the same as the 240's. I'll keep inching up until I het max. Donald

Re: Starting load for 240 SMK's and H50BMG in 300

When running it in the CT i have seen that you can easily use 10 grains more in it then retumbo. The retumbo had a max of about 140 grains the bmg was closer to 150. So you could easily start at the max load for retumbo. I have heard that us869 is a great powder for the rum case. I dont think you could get enough bmg it in to get to max pressure.
