I am starting to get the things I need so that I can start to reload 308. Was able after some time to find a few 8 pound jugs of Varget from a local deal. So that was a nice start. Know comes the time to get in line for some back ordered brass as well as primers and other items. I am wondering if anyone has bought Winchester 308 brass from Brownells. I have always ordered from either Midway or other vendors and I noticed something interesting. Brownells sells thier Winchester 308 brass in "100 count bulk bags" and everyone else is in "50 count bags" Wondering if possible from those that have purchased Winchester brass from Brownells what is ment by the "bulk" reference. Did a little looking around and really could not find anything. The mfr part number off the Brownells website matches the info off the Winchester site. Looking for input or am I just looking to much into this? Or maybe I should look at another vendor.

Thanks in advance for the input!

Re: Starting to reload

What I did instead of buying virgin brass was to find look for cheap softpoint factory win ammo. It was about the same price, at the time, to buy 40 loaded rounds for the cost of 50 empties. I came up 10 short but I got the fun of emptying the brass...

Just an Idea,

That's the same way I've picked up most of my brass these days.

I don't know for certain but I would imagine that "bulk" means that they purchase the brass in bulk boxes (think a few k rounds) then split it up themselves. The place I work at does that it with certain components and it works great. The brass should be fine. You will want to resize all of it because I do tend to see a few more bent mouths from that kind of packaging. But Winchester brass is good to go.

Right now is a frustrating time to get into reloading with the component shortages. It should settle in a bit as all of the hoarders out there stock up to their full. Just keep your eyes out and grab it when you find it.

Not dissing you as I run lapua myself.... Love it. But the op is just getting started. And fwiw I love winchester brass in .308. Doesn't have the life of Lapua but A) it's cheap..er, B) more powder capacity C) easier to get. I will also argue that if one knows whet he's doing win brass isn't to far behind lapua. I'm not talking about quality control ect..... Just a piece of brass that will shoot very well and is in my opinion better than say hornady match brass

I looked at some lapua brass. And to be honest if all I was doing was shooting in the prone that would be on my list. But I have started shooting matches where loss of some brass is just a reality. From what I have found the Winchester brass will do the trick and at $0.36 instead of $0.70 each losing a few a match won't make me cry. However once I get my reloading process down and develop a load for the Winchester brass. I will work on a load for some Lapua brass.
