I am setting up for 1200 yards on a multi-hundred acre ranch. What steel/size/thickness do you recommend for .338LM. Does it need to be AR500?

Thanks!

Re: Steel plate

It all depends on the challenge your looking for, if you want it to be easy make it big, if you want a challenge go smaller...if it was for me I'd go around 20" square, but thats just me...

and "does it need to be AR500?" if you want it to last forever, yes, if you don't care if it dents and needs to be replaced after a few hundred rounds no...

You are the guy I was going to contact. Thanks for being proactive! What is your price on an IPSC type torso? 3/8" or 1/2" for .338LM and .300WM?

Re: Steel plate

I like to use 2 moa as a base line for my targets.
A 16" round at 800 yards is challenging but not impossible even with some wind. 12" at 600 and 20" at 1000 yards.
My targets are 3/8" and have been shot with a 300 win. with no damage.

The below pics show my gong which is 22" across. I found it WAY too big at 1300 yds with my Nightforce on 22x. For reference I am shooting a .308.

Looking through my USO Spotter at 1200 yds:
