CBS: For Immediate release - We want to thank Steven for all that he has contributed in keeping his ratings down and wish him all the best as he pursues interests outside the organization and spends more quality time with his family.

Carson was first........

Carson was the "Tonight Show" on NBC @ 11:30p ET.. Actually, Steve Allen was the first host in 1954-1957, followed by Jack Parr 1957-1962 when Carson took over. During Carson's era, NBC created a show called "Late Night with David Letterman" that aired directly after Carson. This, in response to Letterman guest hosting the Carson show a bunch of times.

Letterman was under the impression (as was some of Carson's team - Peter LaSally, etc.) that Letterman would, eventually, succeed Carson @ 11:30p. But the NBC "executives" had other ideas. Hence, Jay Leno was picked to succeed Carson and Letterman was left at the 12:30a (ND) ET slot.

Eventually, Letterman quit NBC and started a new "competitor" show @ 11:30p ET on CBS called "The Late Show," taped at the "Ed Sullivan Theater" in NYC. "The Late Show" name was CBS' intellectual property (avoiding that issue with NBC), as it was first used by them to host old movie nights. You may recall they used the old "Syncopated Clock" music written by Leroy Anderson and covered by Percy Faith.

There was even a "Late Late Show" for the movies that followed the Late Show, and an "Early Show" movie segment. for the 4:30p movies Thus, Letterman had his own niche until he elected to retire.

I have no idea what will succeed the "Late Show," now. Will they go back to movies? Or what's their plan for the future? I tend to think that NBC will continue the "Tonight Show" program, so we'll see what happens.

I'm sorry......I was born in 1955, and don't remember the shows with Steve Allen, or Jack parr, but I will take your word for it.........

Carson was funny, as was Jay Leno. Letterman was about as funny as a cramp in your taint. Never could stand him.

Conan had his moments, but was mostly amusing. Craig Ferguson about the same.

I haven't watched network TV in several years. Couldn't tell you now if anybody is worth a shit, other than what I read from other people. I guess they all must be hard libs now.

I just read where his show costs $100 Million/year to produce and was/is losing $40 Million/year.

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: Fuck 'em all.
Which proves why he was still on the air. Purely narrative shaping. Now the board has determined his best before date is in the past and they can get the same thing done for a lot less.

Yeah, he’s going away but… in May of 26. Several more months of stupidity to come from this ass clown.

I wonder if he'll grow much more "critical" of Trump now that he knows his days are numbered... (i.e. things you can say now, that you wouldn't say if you were attempting to get your show renewed again). I mean, the only risk he has now is being "cancelled for cause..." (ie. saying something so ridiculously wrong that Trump could sue immediately, or cause the network all kinds of financial and/or regulatory pain).

I don't watch any of them, haven't for a few decades, have I actually missed anything?

I was always a Carson loyalist. The whole pkg. Carson, McMahon, Doc Sevrensen, Tommy Newsome, the jazz orchestra, etc. etc. and all the gags they did and Carson's characters ( Carnac, Aunt Blabby, Floyd R. Turbo ('Merican) and the old time theater they did). TBH, I was in a bit of mourning when he signed off. I was hoping Letterman would succeed him. But I get that Letterman's humor might have been a tad "acerbic" for that slot, thus making Jay Leno the choice to succeed him. But I had trouble adjusting to Leno. The fact that the theme/format etc. changed and all that was a bit troublesome, at first.

Of course Cole Burt will become more of an ass in the time he has remaining ... (if that's possible). Take it to the bank.

I loved his stuff c 2004-5.

When he played the “conservative young Republican” and made fun of everyone!

He turned into a sad, pathetic un-funny leftist.

Along with letterman and all of late night TV.

Good riddance. Hope he was a big spender and is going to have to eat cat food in retirement….

Funny you mention that. Since Penn did play "Harvey Milk" in the same entitled movie.

iu

Not that he (Milk himself) deserved what happened to him, but...

Milk was a degenerate activist, discharged dishonorably from the Navy (he later forged his discharge papers so he could get jobs). He was aa pedophile preying on vulnerable teens and kids in NY (including as a school teacher) as well as in Dallas, San Fran..., a predator and a complete out of control vile scumbag. If he had lived longer, he probably would have been a patient zero of the aids epidemic and killed thousands more. Deserved? Well, he certainly didn't deserve to be made some upstanding citizen, a hero, a martyr and turned into some poor hapless victim and role model, either.

Just goes to show how deranged that Sean Penn is.... that he regards the guy as a great American... But tells you everything you need to know about what a shit-weasel Penn is!

Considering not using this meme again and return it to buymemes.com for a refund?

People 'Buy' Memes? WHAT?

You probably have garbage bag liners in your bathroom trashcan, too.... not just old grocery bags.

Didn't know I was talking to a billionaire!

One of the more illuminating Colbert moments:

Colbert trying to sabotage Jon Stewart's bit about COVID originating from a lab is another highly conspicuous moment.

After colbert's "dancing hypodermic" skit and him trying to 86 Stewart's CV-19 bit, it didn't take any more "free" french fries or krispy kreme to totally convince me that the Clot Shot was a bunch of horseshit.
