Gunsmithing Steyr SSG 69 Bolt Issues

Guys,

I'm hoping you can help me or point me in the right direction to someone who can. I recently picked up a used Steyr SSG 69 PII from my brother as part of a trade. After taking it to the range, I noticed that the bolt handle is loose after firing. I did some 'googling' and found a thread that describes the same problem (http://www.steyrclub.com/vb/threads/9650-steyr-ssg-69-firing-pin-adjustment-how-to). I'm assuming some type of adjustment needs to be made to the firing pin. The gun shoots just fine. The problem I'm running into is I can not disassemble the bolt. It appears the lug attached to the firing pin does not return all the way to the front of the space (towards the bolt face front). This negates the ability to fully rotate the back shroud and remove the firing pin. I have attached a couple pictures showing that the 'lug' does not return all the way to it's rest position.

I can see that 'lug' did return to the proper location, the bolt handle position would be under tension and not flop around. Nothing I've tried will push it into that position and I don't want to damage the bolt assembly trying.

Any Ideas? or does anyone know of a smith that specializes or works on Steyr Bolt Guns?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: Steyr SSG 69 Bolt Issues

You will need to turn the firing pin to get the lug further down the pin so that the shroud will clear the lug and you can disassemble the bolt. You will need to back the screw out of the lug if it is not already.

It is not going to be easy but you can probably use needlenose pliers to grip the firing pin under the shroud.
