Nice to meet you all! I'm new to the forum. Thanks for all the great information found here.

I currently have a Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm SFP (product #54680) on a Rem 700P 308. It has a Mil-Dot reticle with MOA turrets. I have had this set up for 4 years. The optics still appear brand new (I really haven't put more than 100 rounds through the gun). Now that I have started to catch the Tactical Long Range bug, I plan on dedicating A LOT more time learning how to shoot long range.

Here are the cons that I have came up with for the Mark 4: SFP instead of FFP, turrets that don't match the reticle (requires extra calculation), and no illumination (probably not that big of a deal). Pros: nice glass (although I really haven't looked through anything that much better), 70 MOA of adjustment, and it feel very solid and well built (once again, not much experience with anything else).

Cons for the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50mm FFP illuminated EBR-1 MOA with MOA turrets: Probably not up to par in quality of the Leupold but close? Farely new and less established than Leupold, and not made in USA. Pros: FFP!, MOA/MOA turrets/reticle, zero stop, Illumination, customer service has excellent reputation, and Price.

Now I am asking this here because you guys are the experts. If you think I am crazy to consider this idea let me know and I will stick with the Mark 4. I figure I could sell the Mark 4 for around 1000$. Like I stated, it is basically brand new. That would be more than enough to cover the Vortex. I could probably dedicate another 150$ or so to another scope if there is something that better suits me.

Thanks for your time. I plan on learning much from you all.

I would stay with the Mark 4. The glass is defiantly superior. If u can afford it and want to step up I would say see if you can find a good deal on a Nightforce. You would be vary happy with this, but I would consider the Vortex a step down from your current optic.

Re: Stick with my Mark 4? Or change to a PST?...

I also would stick to the Mark 4. I have the Leupold Mark 4 6.5X20 FFP with M5 Mil/Mil turrets. My buddy has a PST. While the Vortex are way nice scopes for the money, they are not Mark 4's. I have shot his gun alot, and he has shot mine, and even he will agree mine is nicer. Now, I dont have illumination, but I have never felt the need for it. Even coyote calling at night with a spot light I have always picked up the crosshairs just fine. If you really want FFP and Mil/Mil, I would sell your current model and pick up one of the FFP version with Mil/Mil. I LOVE mine.

Re: Stick with my Mark 4? Or change to a PST?...

I have both of those scopes, and I love them both. I dont think I'd get rid of the Mk4 just yet, but if you do, I think it would fetch more than just 1000 dollars if its in the condition you describe. If and when you sell it, I would step up to a used NF. The PST is a fine scope, and would serve you well, I would give it a try maybe on your next gun.

Re: Stick with my Mark 4? Or change to a PST?...

Sell it and get something else if you want to. For instance you could buy the weaver 3-15 FFP for ~700 and put some money in your pocket if $$$ is an issue. Glass quality will be about the same, maybe even better in the weaver and you'll have a bunch more features to play with.

Wow. Really? Again?
They have that plant in Oregon and pay all those people just to pretend to make scopes?

Yes, they outsource some of their parts. Just about EVERYBODY does. Just like every quality optics maker outsources their glass.
USO outsources their glass, but the scopes are handbuilt in the USA.

Re: Stick with my Mark 4? Or change to a PST?...

I really appreciate all your replies. Looks like I will hang on to the Mk 4 and just get really good with it. I think on my next SPR build I am going to go with a Vortex PST.
