I have a new Remington 700 in 223 Remington, and I have to push very hard to get the extractor over the rim of my Lapua cases. I'm pushing harder than I've ever pushed on any other bolt rifle in any caliber.

I even replaced the extractor, but it still feels the same.

This is my first 700 in 223 Remington. Is this simply par for the course with this design and caliber?

    Thanks

This is a common issue with the .223. Not sure which it is the extractor or bolt but I believe the extractor grove in the bolt nose wasn't cut deep enough for the snap in extractor to have enough spring to it.

Most will fix this by Dremeling off the edge of the extractor a little at a time until you get the results you want.

I suggest you order a few extractors before you go and do this. Also don't remove an extractor and put it back in you will cause yourself other issues.

A sako extractor might fix the issue. I know of a few guys I told to replace with a sako and it seemed to have fixed the problem. All Remington will try to do is send you another extractor. But the new one might be the same.
