Stiller Aluminum Bases????

I just got my Stiller Tac 30 with the 20 MOA base. I was a little disappointed that the base was made of aluminum not steel. The base was only $50, so don't feel cheated, but I guess I kind of thought being that it was a custom action, they'd offer it with a steel base.

Okay my question, being that it's aluminum, is there any reason to put steel rings on it (hard rings and a soft base)? Also, is there any reason to bed the base? Being that aluminum is soft (softer) will it really stiffen up the action that much (even though I doubt the Tac 30 SA needs any help on stiffness).

the point of bedding the base to the action is not to stiffen the action. seriously theirs still only 4 screws holding it on.

The point of bedding the action to the base is to not bend it when its screwed down to the receiver.

I have been doing some reading on the aluminum vs steel rings/bases. People mention not wanting to mix metals. But if you start with the receiver like on a pss, then you start with steel right?, so you mix right off the bat with aluminum. I was thinking about a EGW aluminum base, with aluminum tps rings. The scope going in the rings is aluminum.

I dont understand the fuss. I know the egw bases are quality having used one before not even realizing about it being auminum.

Then there are the alloys like in the seekins rings. Everyone knows these rings are some of the best out there.

Has anyone overtightened the base or rings to the point that it has damaged these aluminum bases/rings? Say using one of the seekonk torque wrenches. id just like to know.

Your right the action is steel, but that's why the preferable way is to put a steel base and steel rings on it.

I'd rather the Stiller base be steel obviously, but since it's aluminum, I'm think I'd be better off putting aluminum rings on an aluminum base.

Use steel rings, you'll have no issues.

farrell makes a steel base for the stillers. Even had one made for the tac 338.

I doubt mixing metal would matter much. With some metals, you want them to be different, or they wear together very fast.
