I been looking for a Stiller Tac 338 action for months... My build is going to be a 338 lapua imp... Does anyone have a line on any good custom action for a 338 Lapua that is currently available.. Thanks Dave

It isn't the action diameter that determines what diameter barrel you can use, it is the thread size. Some people don't think you should use an action that has 1-1/16" threads with a case that size.

The larger action size has more to do with bolt/bolt lug size than it does barrel breech OD. The bigger actions need bigger barrels for more barrel shoulder engagement against the action, increased wall thickness is a secondary benefit, not the primary.

It doesn't matter what is primary or secondary. The reason you need a bigger barrel for more shoulder contact is because the thread size is larger. If an action has a 1-1/8" thread size, it needs a barrel larger than 1.250" even if the action diameter is 1.350". The reason you can use a 1.250" barrel on a Defiance action is because it has a 1-1/16 inch thread. And that brings you back to using that large case on a 1-1/16" tenon. I know everyone doesn't think that a 1-1/16" tenon is too small for a Lapua size case but some do. I also know some people use 1.250" barrels with 1-1/8" threads.
