Stock coatings/paint?

What kind of coating/paint does HS Precision or Manners use? Are there any other options other than spray paint. I have all the equipment and experience shooting automotive paint, so I can venture away from spray cans if needed.

Thanks in advance...

Re: Stock coatings/paint?

as far as I know HS Precison and Rocky Mountain Arms both do Teflon-S. This is a thin and very durable colored coating that has some lubricity (doesn't feel slippery though). I have this coating on 2 rifiles:

M1A
AR-15

Everything but the bore was coated. I can go on metal as well as synthetics. Mine has absolutly been great. There is some wear on the high contact surfaces (like the bolt) but it has done great for me. I will be getting my .338 custom done in it as well. I can't say enough great things about the folks at Rocky Mountain Arms where I got mine done. You can check them out at http://www.rockymountainarms.us/

They call their coating "Bearcoat". I just think there haven't been very many reviews, and these two facilities haven't done a real good job of marketing (guess they are too busy working). But everything I read and research about the coating puts it above the other coatings like ceracoat, duracoat and a bunch of others.

The fellows at Rocky Mount Arms said the FBI tested a variety of coatings like ceracoat when they chose Teflon-S as the coating of choice for their sniper rifles. I really haven't been able to verify this since the study doesn't seem to be published, but so far, I am personally happy with the coating done for my rifles.

I believe Manners uses Polane T. I've used Duracoat to great success. From what I've heard they are pretty close to the same product. The rifle I'm having built right now will be ceracoated.
