Gunsmithing Stock finishing?

So ive got a rifle set aside at the local gun shop, that was too good of a deal to pass up, and im going to pick it up as soon as an item sells on E-Bay. But it has a custom made wooden stock, specifically for that gun. I cannot buy another stock for it. I do not want the wood finish, so what should i do to make it black. Do i paint it? Is there some kit i can use? I was thinking of using truck bed liner on it, but is that a good idea? Need help guys!

*Note, the stock does not have a clear coat or any protectant on it at the moment.

Its built off of a mauser action (allegedly, doesnt lok like a mauser action to me) but custom chambered to 308. Its got an aluminum bedded thumb through.

Is it a 98 Mauser or Yugo? Large ring, small ring, or intermediate.
