Gunsmithing Stock Inletting & GA Precision

I just spoke with a great fella from GA Precision in regards to inletting my 700P stock for the M5 Stealth Detachable Mag System. Ken advised that it's a routine job and I could send just the stock or the whole rifle. Could members give some personal testimony on whether or not to send the whole rifle? He mentioned that sometimes issues can occur (rare) so they can solve any problems right there at the shop. I've been putting this project together little by little and this is the next step. With a reasonable turn time, and the fact that an actual person answered the phone, I look forward to getting this bottom metal installed. Thank you for any advice.

Whole thing, that way they can function test it. Saves return shipping and time if tweaks need to be made after it comes back to you the first time.

Whole thing. Minimize what can do wrong and save yourself having to turn around and send in the barreled action because they may or may not end up needing it.

It's probably the safe bet to send the whole thing but I only sent the stock in when I had my B&C inletted. It took right at four or five weeks including the shipping both ways which is what was quoted to me. The stock inletting was perfect for the Stealth DBM and feeding has been flawless with AI and Alpha mags.

Thank you members! And nary a flogging! I just knew that there was mercy to be found here. I'll send the whole thing (minus optic & base) out on Monday. Bottom metal came with one 10 rd Accurate mag. but I'll try to score a couple more mags.


Trigger Monkey posts that Alpha mags work..Type 1 or Type 2? I've loaded some rounds to the rifling and they shot very well, but as you know, were looong. Maybe I just answered my question...? I stand ready for the flogging..ugh..

If you want to use type 2s, you'll need a notch cut in the feed ramp. It's not a big deal and can be done while the guys at GAP have your rifle. George did a barrel set-back for me on mine many years ago that didn't cost too much, corrected the chamber and throat, and made a big difference in accuracy. Food for thought.
