Gunsmithing stock question

Re: stock question

My First question would be "Why would you want to do that?"

First off you will need 2 places on the stock for the action screws to screw into. The 10/22 stock only has one hole for the action screw.

The anschutz match 54 has 2 action screws both of which are in front of the trigger like a savage center fire action like a model 10 action.

The way that the 10/22 stocks are inletted makes it large gaping hole where the rear action screw that is in front of the trigger would be. Also the front action screw location would not be in the right place so that would have to be modified. If it were me it seems more trouble than it is worth to modify the stock to fit the round bottomed Match 54 action. If you don't like your current stock then just buy another stock that is made for the Match 54 action.

Re: stock question

well i was thinking about doing that since finding an anschutz silhouette stock seems next to impossible.

i was thinking however that i could use the one action screw and put another one behind the trigger guard area and have them as pillars not conecting to the action but for holding the make shift bottom metal, which would have an action pillar and the holes for the anschutz action srews... just and idea though.

what do you think?

Re: stock question

It's more trouble than its worth. You've got nothing to bed or wedge between the official rear action screw (between the front part of the trigger guard and the actual action); it's just hollow space. By it is structurally very weak by not having any part of the stock between the front part of the trigger guard and the action. The anschutz match 54 stock will have wood there; your 10/22 stock will not have wood there. The rear "action screw" on the anschutz is just to hold the trigger guard up but you are trying to use it to secure the action like it's an action screw even though it does not connect to the action. And even my drawing is slightly wrong on the rear part because there really is nothing on the rear part of the action and stock area for the anschutz match54 action to sit on top of in a 10/22 stock.
