What is the bottom metal inlet on the Iota and the flat black Greybull?

The Iota is straight 700 BDL, the flat back Greybull is a some kind of AICS. I bought it second hand from a Gunwerks employee off ebay. The rear comb didn't work out for the 2.5 inch scope offset of an American rifle company Nucleus with a 56mm scope in a Spuhr mount so I am shifting it to make room for another GRS Bifrost.
