Hi Guys,

I just got my R700 and I put a nice Leupold scope on it. I also have a $100 bipod one of my shooting buddies gave me.

I really like it, and the little bit I have fired it has been really good fun! I like it more than my PT 1911.

However, I have a problem. I like the stock on my 700, but it seems a bit to squishy. So I am looking into getting a new stock for it, and I have no clue what to get. My shooting buddy doesn't have advice as he is a pistol guy.

I'm looking to spend up to $600. Is this a realistic number for a better stock? If so where should I look to get a nice stock? My town really doesn't have a nice gun shop, so a www. would be preferred.

Here is what I have. Everything is exactly as the company sends it. I use the .308 barrel.

Thanks in Advance,

I am a new guy to this whole rifle game, is this a good stock. Is it worth trading up my factory stock?

Thanks

I have the 700P stock, very similar but without LOP and Adj Cheek. But yes I would say they are pretty good. I would take a look at Manners or McMillan also.

Re: Stocks

Those stocks on the rem 700 from the factory certainly leave something to be desired. I have 2 Manners and think they are just top notch. I would throw my support behind them in the price range that you are suggesting. Tom Manners is a good guy to deal with also. Very helpful. If you want to go with a stock that is quality, but certainly less expensive, pick up a Bell and Carlson. I recently replaced a stock similar to the one that you have with a B&C and it is one of the best purchases that I have made recently.

Re: Stocks

all the above are great for a less expensive option look at bell & carlson. i have the a3 from stockys on a r700 varmint 308 and for 225ish shipped i really like it. it was backordered and only took 2 weeks to get it. midway had them in stock on sale a week ago might still.

Re: Stocks

Jedi,

If your thinking about wood, check out this guys site Joel Russo Stocks . I asked him to make me an M40 replica stock two weeks ago(he has CNC equipment with the programs). He called me Wednesday and said it was finished minus the pad. So far he has been a hell of a nice guy and very interested in doing it right. I'll post something when I get the stock.
