Fieldcraft store bought ghillie?

Re: store bought ghillie?

The Russian military had/has ghille-type unis that produce a nice 3D camo effect. The winter version is called "werewolf" and the summer version is called "goblin". Might look around at the various soviet surplus sites and see if you can't score a deal.

Re: store bought ghillie?

If I could find one that could take hard sunlight, 90 deg - 100 deg (f) weather and almost always 50% humidity or higher. That wouldnt bake me alive. Then , maybe id consider buying one

Re: store bought ghillie?

If you absolutely must buy a kit or even a completed suit...you better roll with tactical concealment. I've had my hands on no less than 10 different store bought brands and 90% were garbage that required more cutting off, modifying and/or adding than its worth.

I got to handle the Rancho one a few weeks back that a fellow coyote hunter bought. Very NOT impressed.
I don't like buying a kit or a suit, but if I ever did...it would come from tactical concealment.

Re: store bought ghillie?

I never thought I would have a use for a ghillie.

Then a couple days after my granddaughter had some of her basketball team over for a camping/sleep over in my back pasture I saw a ghillie at a surplus store and got to thinking.

I could have some fun with those girls..............imagine the swamp thing brousing around their tent during the night.

Re: store bought ghillie?

Honestly, I have seen commercial ghillies, and never liked a single one. I made one from some stuff lying around and it took me about 2 days. If your serious about it, you will just make your own. Store bought ones never look the same as the one I built in the service, and wouldn't dare stand up against the abuse that your gonna expect.

Here is the one that took me 2 days to build. I will admit, that I already had all the materials in my closet, and just put them together. Prep of coat took me about 6 hours, dying the burlap was overnight, and then tying them to the net took me the entire next day (also included drying the burlap in sun, cutting into strips, and parting the threads)

If you want, contact me, ill give you a list of what you need to get yours rolling, you can pick the stuff up on your travels, and then ill email you a play by play of how to build your suit. Get all your stuff, and set aside 2 days, and it will be 90% complete. You still have to break your suit in and veg it to your AO, but I guarantee you will be so much happier and more satisfied having something you made that actually works. You can set aside an extra day if you wanna FR it, although I doubt you'll need to.

just my .02
