So I was at a competition this last week and after watching a Law Enforcement unit there work with a straight pull bolt action rifle I'm pretty sold on the whole idea.

Any idea where I can get the supplies to custom build this type of rifle? The only place I've even seen a rifle of that type is on the SigSauer website and I'm not willing to cop out the cash for that Blaser 2, especially since the idea is for this next weapon of mine to be custom.

Appreciate the help guys.

Re: Straight Pull Bolt Action Rifle?

For a modern rifle, I think the Blaser is pretty much it.

I own a 1947 K31 and love it. I have considered having it re-barred in 308. LPR gunsmithing is the only place I could find that does this (http://www.lprgunsmith.com/K31_rifles.htm). When I considered the lack of good aftermarket stocks and screwy scope mounting, I gave up on the idea.

There were a number of Hammerli made K31 rifles made for match shooting you might want to consider. They have special target front & rear sights and are extremely accurate. Hard to find but worth a try.

First on the market was steyr m1884, followed by 1885 and 1895.
The mauser model 96 straight pull was a intended to be modern huntingrifle, but was just an orgie in poor workmanship and poor design .

Re: Straight Pull Bolt Action Rifle?

yeah browning make the T bolt in .22 and .17 hmr, lol, my mate has both and are fun enough, but if a quick reload is what you are after, why not just go custom semi auto??

izhmash also make straight pull toggle bolt 22's as well as anschutz, but only in 22's...........they are sexy for a 22 though i must say, $$$$ too. both a are match grade tack drivers.

i should have bought an izhmash when i saw it in a local gun shop but next time i went back to put down a deposit, it was GOOOOONE.

cheers, jimi

Re: Straight Pull Bolt Action Rifle?

Maybe it's time to reassess your goal. I understand how an idea can capture one's attention.

But the idea, although sound, has far too little of a market to support the kind of competitive manufacture and marketing that drives good design and pricing.

Think back to the day before you saw the Blaser. Your life was simpler, and your vista was complete and satisfying despite your complete disinterest in that rifle.

Now ask yourself which day you were happier on.

Re: Straight Pull Bolt Action Rifle?

Recently got a Swiss K-31 instead of a cash payment and I love it. Considering the "Rock Solid Rifle Mount " for mounting a SS 10X42. It Mounts the scope centered over the receiver with a built in brass deflector. The hand guard could be eliminated and the stocks forearm shortened (have seen a few done and they look good). 7.5 mm GP-11 Swiss ammo is compared favorably to FGMM 175 SMK for about $.50 a rd. Rifles can be had for +- $200 in GREAT mechanical condition, above mentioned mount is ~ $200 installed, SS 10X42 ~ $400, Rings ~ $100. Not as glamorous as a Remy or a Savage, but will most likely shoot just as well or better than any unmodified rifle. The trigger pull is great as is, plus it has a DBM. Sounds like a great budget approach for a 1000 yd performer under $1000.
