I hope this is the right area for this type question ? I bought this six digit Remington for a donor action and found some interesting things ? It was remarked .358 win on the barrel and I noticed the proof marks under the scope area. I pulled the stock and the factory markings reading .243 are crossed off and turned under the handguards. Is this a normal thing re rifling a barrel to a larger caliber ?

The second question is there is a pin through the bolt head and ground off ? It looks like it sticks up more inside the bolt head to maybe center the case more ? I'm not sure but thought the .358 had the same size as the .243 ?

Here's some pictures of this mess.

Part #1 I don't know. I have never had a barrel re-bored and re-cut or lined.

Part #2 Do you want to use a pocket knife to get your fired brass out? I believe that's the pin that holds the extractor in place.

Thanks for the replies I looked at the other 700 ' s I have and didn't see that rivet ? Is this something on early models ?
The reason for the questions I don't want to ship the parts to a smith only to find out they won't work.

Yeah, older models had the riveted extractor. I don't know the cutoff, but it was in the 70's sometime that remington went with the spring-clip extractor if I remember correctly.
