I drive em out with a wooden dowel rod. If I can't get the bolt to open, one thing I WON'T do is take a mallet to the bolt handle! Ask me how I know about this.
Recipe for disaster. Wooden dowels are for making pegs, or repairing broken or cracked wooden objects. Not for driving down a rifle bore.
If you don't own a stuck case remover for use on a die one can easily be made. A 1/4" nc tap, appropriate size drill bit, good grade 1/4" nc bolt, stack of washers to pipe bushing, GTG. Drill and tap through primer pocket, thread bolt through appropriate washers into stuck case, tighten until case surrenders. usually 1/8" or so.
Thanks for the info; however, what can you do if you can unlock the rifle bolt but can't open it. I had a stuck case that wouldn't let me open the bolt. I then tried lightly tapping the bolt handle with a rubber mallet. You can probably figure out the rest of the story.
Thanks Steve! Actually, when I took my rifle to a gunsmith to have the bolt handle soldered back on, the smith suggested the dowel rod. Fortunately, I have only had to deal with a stuck case once since that time.
After the first one, Imperial size die wax...![]()
