Student Film About Snipers - No Neutral Ground

Re: Student Film About Snipers - No Neutral Ground

What was your target audience? I think it was shot well and looks good but the story is a little heavy on the moral stuff.

Is that the kid from Friday Night Lights, Matt Sarecen?

Re: Student Film About Snipers - No Neutral Ground

Yeah I hear ya. Looking back at it there are probably a ton of things I would have done differently or better. But a lot of us had a fun time with this one. Most of the students try to make anything that is easy but personally I like to take risks and go for the hard-to-produce material.

Got any examples of fellow students' work?

Yeah Chapman has made tons of short films over the years. Here's a couple that I just did a search for:

Here are some others that my friend Yuki, the cinematographer of three of my films, also shot:

And here's one that I directed right after No Neutral Ground:

It needs a couple of babes in it. I run a small modeling agency for women with unique characteristics. Let me know if you want me to hook you up. I can send some pics.

I liked it. Directing was good and I would have watched more if it were longer. With a bigger budget I could see good things down the road for this guy.

No wait a minute, what if the kid is shooting a movie of Moby Dick, or something with a female big foot. Then he might have the right gal.

Come on man, you know you have to give a reason for that. You can't bring that kind of review wihtout giving a how come, so let's see it. Not for my benefit, but for his

Like Switch said, you've gotta justify that. I think it was great but the pistol-whip was a little weak (for obvious reasons) and the moral/drama was keyed up but find a flick where that isn't the case... i can't speak to realism because I'm not a sniper despite my staying at a Holiday Inn.

Re: Student Film About Snipers - No Neutral Ground

I thought it was pretty good for College work. More research would make it even better. I know budgets are what they are but you need to get out to a local range and barrow some better equipment. Also about half way through it jumped around a little to much for me as in hand held camera.
What part of Kalifornia are you in? Should I assume O.C.?

I think there are several here that can recommend some good books for you to read that may aid in more current tactics and you can semi Hollywood some of it.
I think that the normal movie viewer is more savy than they used to be so they tend to be critical when they see stuff that may not be real life.
My wife and all my kids hate the fact that on almost every single new movie out I can guess what will happen next and pick out the bad guy in the movie after only 15 or so minutes of watching. It goes something like this.
Press pause, do you want me to tell you who the killer is? Aw dad come on they barely rolled the opening credits. NO. OK go ahead and push play then. Dang it dad who did it, no way he couldn't be the killer he to nice! An hour or so later. Dang it dad you were right again. Arrgh!

Re: Student Film About Snipers - No Neutral Ground

DK, they have to be glad the bad guys didn't smell like the real thing. Just thinking about that 'haji' smell makes my nose hurt!

0700L:
OSI: Staff, can you search this guy for us?
Me: OK.
OSI: Thanks Staff
Me: *God Damn that motherfucker stunk, I'll never get that stench out of my gloves!*

1830L:
OSI: Hey Staff come on back to our hooch!
Me: OK
OSI: Hey man, sorry 'bout that stinky bastard this morning, cold one?
Me:

Re: Student Film About Snipers - No Neutral Ground

My biggest problem with the film was the constant flagging (pointing barrel) by the "spotter" right at the back of the "sniper" otherwise it was nicely made.
