Hi Fellas,

I need a good Subsonic starting load or two so I can get up and running with my can. Need a base load to get started with and I'm not sure with the 1x12" twist.

Gun
... Stock SPS Tactical - BBl cut to 18"
... 1 x 12 twist
... running an AAC muzzle brake and a 7.62 SD can.

Need some help please from someone who loads subsonic on a regular basis... !! I'm a reloading newbie as well.

Thanks

For a 1-12", you'll have the best results with flat-base bullets in the 125-150 gr. range. The Berry's 150 gr. FP bullet is a nice cheap bullet for subsonic loads. Start them with about 10gr. of Trailboss and work DOWN until you get to the velocity you are looking for. 1050 fps. is a number a lot of people aim for, but 1000 fps. is better if you plan on shooting it in cold weather.

The Hornady 180 gr. RN is one of the easiest bullets to stabilize. You are looking for a stability factor of 2.0 or greater. The Hornady RN has a SF of 3.42.

A good place to start is 11.5 to 12 gr. of Trail Boss. Back the charge down until you get in the 1000 fps range.

Start load development without the can on. Shoot at paper or cardboard targets at 50 yds. looking for nice round bullet holes. Confirming the bullets are stabilized.

Hope this helps.
