hey all,

i do have data on this using clays powder, i remember once when i did this i used a magnum primer, in my msg90 style clone
the brass was ejected but the bullet didnt make it out of the bore..

i have though about using more clays to the equasion and just now though about backing the blc-2 down, say i use 42 gr of powder in my match load why not cut that in half and use 21 gr ? would this work ? i have a load worked up but it wont cycle, which makes my platform a little useless and iam looking for somthing that will cycle yet stay relitivly quiet or at the 1-1500fps range

Re: subsonic reloading for 308

Read the "loads for subsonics - all cals" thread in the reloading depot.

Cutting a load weight in half is a very dangerous idea. "Secondary Explosive Effect" is what you're in store for, and if a powder stops burning and instead detonates (S.E.E.) it doesn't take much to turn your rifle into a metal confetti mess... a lot less powder than it takes to burn properly and sling a bullet.

If you break Mach 1 (vaires, but runs around 1050-1150 fps) it will have a supersonic report, no way around that.

If you want it to cycle in a gas gun you're probably going to need a piston actuated upper.

IIRC you have a 91 clone of some sort right? Are you going to suppress it?

Re: subsonic reloading for 308

You should read the subsonic thread, DO NOT use blc2 in the manner you suggested.

Look at Trail Boss, Unique, Red Dot, Green Dot for powders.

I'd be surprised if you found a load to cycle that action in OEM trim, the few times that I've seen it done is with a piston upper or with an adjustable gas block that has a very "open" setting for a lot of gas to flow back, the subsonic rounds won't produce enough gas to cycle it otherwise.

Re: subsonic reloading for 308

well i guess i will stick with my current subsonic load data or scrap the project all togeather.

after all i really dont see much of a need for a subsonic load to cycle the action

i mainly use what i have now to shoot ratcoons at night with out waking the people next door it i shoot and miss ill get another chance the next night its not life or death lol so ill just stick with what i have now

Re: subsonic reloading for 308

Reoader Mag this month had an artical about using trail boss. I tried it in my 375 H&H (270 grn bullet at 1340 FPS) AND My 416 Rigby (400 grn bullet at 1366).

Trail Boss makes some nice mild loads. A pleasure to shoot. Whats nice, no filler needed. Its recommeded that the case be 75% full so as not to compress the powder.

Trail Boss opens up a whole new window for reloading and shooting.
