Hey guys nice to see the old hide back. I was once a daily reader and sometimes contributer, but then I got married had some kids and the hide changed at the same time so I am out of the loop I guess.
Just purchased a PSA 12" grendel upper for a truck gun it was on sale and really wanted to try one. I am really liking it so far which is why I am posting. I need an optic and dont really know what the current options are. The gun is nothing special shoots MOA and gets beat around so hoping something in the 500 dollar range will work especially with all these clearance specials.
My first option is a 3.5 10 sightron for 400 at liberty, purchased from there before excellent experience then offset with a red dot.
Second option is a burris 1.5-8 for little over 500 never used a LPVO before but I think it would be perfect on this rig.
Nikon has nice deals right now but they are done with scopes so probably pass on that. Seems all budget LPVOs are sold out the Primary Arms scopes seem to be liked for this kind of thing but dont know if its worth the wait.
So what says the hide are there any other deals or scopes I should look at. Shooting will be mainly at 100-200 but I handload and would like to stretch it to 600-700 as well. Thanks for any and all input

I have been using a Leupold 1-4 For 10 years or so with what they call the pig plex reticle.
It's a basic BDC reticle very light weight and clear and has been moved around between several 68spc rifles and is now on my 16" 556 rifle.
Definitely worth a look and are relatively low cost.

Thanks for the fast replies guys. I looked for the strike eagle mount combo when I purchased but the sale was over might have to recheck. The strike eagle seems to get mixed reviews though. I am going to check on the leupold and would love to score a P4xi but they are a little high for my budget also nervous about only 4x on the top end. I wanna hit 6 to 700 steel with friends and see the looks on there face when I do it with the tiny 12 grendel, which is why the burris caught my eye.

Check out the new Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 and the Burris RT 1-6.

That Burris 1.5-8 is also a good option, but it's also about 6 oz heavier (and more expensive).

Really like the 1-6 option and there are some really affordable ones out there.
I leave on 1x and is nice for jumping out and blasting coyotes that are running pt blank or has 6x for some longer plinking...

You can also find a used Viper PST II 1-6 for less than $500. Great glass for the price.

If 600-700 yards is more appealing to you the Leupold may not be a good choice since it is geared more for a light weight fast target acquisition in dense brush or close range.
For that role I would personally go with a 1" tube 3-9 variable as they are still very light have a fixed parralax and are very rugged and simple to be able to just pick up and shoot quickly without fiddling around with for a truck gun.
But I'm sure my idea of ideal is vastly different than many around here.

No that's exactly what I was thinking. Especially with the 3.5 10 deal at liberty. Illya, I hope I spelled that right, has been a guy I have always followed advice from. He says the sightron at 400 is a steal and I can run a red dot offset if I want better close up performance. The weight is something I need to consider though. The RT6 is also something I have looked at but its sold out most places and wondering if spending an extra 150 for the 1.5-8 is a better step up not able to compare the 2 none are available in my area.

Just for a basic size comparison here is the Luepold on a 16" AR with a Ziess 3-9

Thanks for the pic. That is the main reason I am considering an LPVO it seems so much more handy.
And that review from optics thoughts is one I take seriously very good info there. So it seems the RT6 is one of the best in that price range now to find one might have to call around. That vortex 2-10 is very tempting especially the weight. I am a mil mil guy but might have to suck it up, so many options going to check on the R6 maybe give liberty a call and try to compare it to the 1.5-8 to see how much of a difference there is I feel like it's normal price tag of 900 plus would make it somewhat better.

Just about any quality scope will bounce around pretty good as long as you store it right side up and horizontal like you would shoot it. I have a Nikon Black FX1000 on my 308 that bounced around in my truck for almost two years and the zero didn't move. Just store your gun in a slip case behind the front seat sitting up across the hump where it can't flop around sideways. If you want tough, Steiner scopes are also pretty heavy duty.

The swfa ultra light 2.5x10 is on sale with a mount for 379. Under 10oz with enough magnification to shoot out past supersonic in your combo

Wow, thanks for all the offers and responses. Made some calls and now I can add the pst2 1-6 in the mix. I think I am leaning towards an LPVO on this one just to try one out.
So options are the rt6 for a nice price, pst2 1-6 at the top of the budget, and a burris 1.5-8 on clearance for same as pst2. Would really like a Steiner 1-4 but not this time and over budget maybe for a regular ar one day.
Is that ss lightweight as durable as the old ss10's that's looks tempting for any gun really?
I keep coming back to that 1.5-8 seems like a great deal maybe overthinking this.

And there you have it. These are the best choices in the price range.
