I recently picked up a Savage Short Action with a .223 bolt face and worn out .204 barrel. It has the accu-trigger and appears to only be a few years old.

So, I would like to buy a replacement barrel in a 1/8 .223 around 20" Varmint profile

What is a good barrel and stock combo ?

Thanks

I have a criterion light varmint barrel in 22-250 that I have had good luck with. For a stock I don't have any experience with anything other than the accustock, but I have a McMillan A5 that should be here soon. You could also go with manners if you don't want to go with a chassis.

Shilen/Criterion/Rock and a few others make a nice barrel...but honestly you can do real well with a stock savage 223 tube...I've never seen a Savage heavy barrel that didn't shoot well and I mean WELL...if you haven't already go over to Savage Shooters - Home and join...LOTS...TONS of good info on Savages..even have a classified section...I saw a 20" threaded .223 Savage for $150 low round count...

While your at it consider replacing the stock recoil lug with a SSS .250 lug...worth every penny...EGW makes a fine 20MOA one pc picatinny base to mount your glass on...

Also CDI makes an awesome set of bottom metal for DBM's

Check out Stocky Stocks...lots of options for stocks there..lots of them IN STOCK TOO...B&C Tactical Medalist is a favorite in the low end he has McMillan and Manners as well...welcome to the Brotherhood of the Barrel Nut...
