Haven't had a chance to post since the site left those other guys, been working way too much OT. Back in the spring I started a "long range" (past 300m) build that I wanted to have look less "scary" to the non-firearm enthusiast and somewhat like a more traditional "hunting" rifle. What I came up with was a wood furniture, FDE recievers, black barreled, side charge build in 6.5mm Grendel (so I could make use of the AR-15 parts I had on hand).

Where I am "stuck" at is mounting the scope. I would like a mount that isn't QD/levers/thumb screws. I have a couple of mounts from Aero, but they don't quite sit "right" in appearance. I have a set of Seekins Precision scope rings (low) with a picatinny rail riser, but I'm not sure how much, if any, negative effect that would have on accuracy. My thinking is more moving parts/attachments equates to more potential wobble, things coming loose, points of failure.

Currently I have zero plans for any "serious" long range shooting (competitions, hunting, etc.) but I would like to make sure I have a respectable amount of potential accuracy from the rifle. At this time my scope is just an older 3-9x40mm Bushnell Legend with 1" tube diameter.

Does anyone have any suggestions, (other than "buy a new scope"...that's on the list already) for mounting options? I searched eBay and Amazon multiple times but have not been able to find any 1" Seekins rings taller than "low". Is there any brands that are similar to the Seekins?

Thanks for any input!

As far as "less scary" goes, I work at a television station. My average co-worker believes all the anti-2A hype the MSM puts out.

Was not aware of ARC. Will definitely have to look at them closer! And yes, the do cost more than my current scope, but upgrading to a new one is on the list for tax return spending.

Oh. I guess whatever ya gotta do to get your friends out to shoot is a good thing. Cerakote that sucker PINK.

far as mounts go; why not just bolt your rings straight to the flattop picatinny on the upper?

Not gonna Cerakote pink...at least not this build.

If I can find some rings tall enough in 1" that meet or come close to meeting the style I hope to find I would gladly mount them directly to the receiver. As it is, the Seekins I do have are their "low" height, which are a bit too low for the current scope. The ARC's look like they might be an option at the moment.

If you are going to upgrade the scope at some point, you would do well to consider buying a mount that can be used on that new scope. If you are going to go to a 30 mm tube, there are inserts you can buy to make a 1” tube fit in a 30mm mount. That will save you a few bucks over buying a mount you might not have a continuing use for...
